BIOGRAPHY

A native of Ireland, and a long time resident of New York City, Brian O’Carroll, just completed “Last Fair Deal” (dir. Nicholas Gray) a short, centered around blues great ‘Robert Johnson’. He produced and photographed BLUE CAPRICE, which sold to IFC after premiering at Sundance 2013, (dir. Alexandre Moors) and was nominated for an independent Spirit award in 2014. “All the beautiful things” a doc/drama feature shot on 35mm premiered at Sundance 2015, and “The Yellow Birds” (dir. Alex Moors) on which Brian shot 2nd unit, just won best cinematography at Sundance 2017.

Coming from a decade of shooting news, conflict, science and human condition documentaries, he lenses with insight and honesty.
He photographed THE MEN WHO BUILT AMERICA in 2012 with director Ruan Magan. In 2011 Brian and Ruan made a short called ANGEL.

Angel won best short film in half of the festivals in which it was accepted, including Milan….
Brian has been honored by the International Cinematographers Guild, three times for CHERRY BLOOM, 8 FOR INFINITY, and ANGEL with an Emerging Cinematographer Award. Conventioneers, he shot in 2004 which premiered at Tribecca, and won a spirit award in 2005. With many documentaries, commercials, music videos, shorts and indie features to his credit, as cinematographer and sometimes producer, he continues to feel privileged to be a part of this world of storytelling. With a remarkably personal style, his approach to the craft of filmmaking is both reverent and inventive. He shot H8RZ, filmed in Utah in 2015, and is producing and photographing another indie, ‘No Fury’ (dir. Ruan Magan), due to shoot in Ireland in Spring 2017.

He is a proud owner of 2 Alexas, an Amira, and some exquisite glass.

He is President and owner of Hi Def New York HDNY LLC a successful commercial, doc and music video full service production company….. and is based in NYC.
